Name: Hamden CT - Emotional Freedom Technique: Care for Clients and Practitioners
Date: February 16, 2018
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM PST
Event Description:

Emotional Freedom Technique is a form of Energy Psychology, combining psychotherapy and energy healing techniques, based on the understanding of the human body as an electrical system and the recognition of the systems of subtle energy that surround and interface with the physical body.  These include the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.

EFT is an emotional form of acupuncture in which we tap with the fingertips to stimulate certain energy points on the body while the client is "tuned in" to the problem. We verbalize a set-up phrase and reminder phrases to keep the client focused on the issue as we tap.   EFT is centered around the profound effects of the body's subtle energies, based on the idea that "the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.”  It has proven to be effective in the treatment of a variety of mental health and physical symptoms.  It also has the benefit of being able to be taught to clients so that they can utilize it outside of therapy.

In this engaging workshop, participants will learn how to use Emotional Freedom Technique both for their own self-care and for working with their clients.  As mental health providers, it is incumbent upon us to be as emotionally healthy and clear as we can be, so that we can serve our clients in the highest way possible.  And, as scientific research continually discovers new information about the brain and the mind/body/spirit connection, we need to be open to new ways of serving our clients. EFT provides a simple, easy to use solution to each of these concerns.

Emotional Freedom Technique has application across a broad range of issues, including stress and anxiety related disorders, PTSD, physical pain, self-sabotage, cravings and addictions and performance.  It draws from a variety of proven modalities, including Thought Field Therapy, acupuncture, biofeedback, EMDR, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy and applied kinesiology.  There is a growing body of research showing the efficacy of EFT in many different settings.  The Stress Project has been using EFT with veterans for nearly 10 years with significant results and has recently gotten approval from the Office of Veteran’s Affairs to bring EFT into VA Hospitals.

This workshop will cover the history and science behind EFT, expose participants to the idea of the body as an energy system and teach the “Basic Recipe” of EFT, which is the foundation for more advanced practices. Since this is a different way of interacting with clients, and can feel a little awkward at first, there will plenty of time to become comfortable with the technique, through observation of demonstration sessions, practice with partners and time for questions and answers.  Participants will leave with the basic skills and knowledge to use EFT on themselves, friends and family, as well as clients.
